Flower Costume

This may be the craziest costume I have ever made, but I'm pleased with the way it turned out so I have chosen to share it with you!

A couple months ago, a customer contacted me and said that she wanted her girls to dress up as a bee and a flower. She said she was having a tough time coming up with a flower costume that she really liked and asked if I'd give it a shot. I'm always up for a good tulle challenge, so I began playing around with the idea.

Because this was 100% experimental, I didn't get pictures of the steps. I think it's all pretty obvious, but I'll walk you through a bit of it!

The petals are made from a satin elastic headband and tulle. Attach the tulle to the headband the same way you'd make a tutu. Put as much or as little as you want. You may need to try it on her a couple times during the process. (My 5 year old son because my "tester" and he wasn't very thrilled about it!)

I gathered the tulle in bunches and secured the bunches at the end with clear elastic hair ties. Then I trimmed the ends so the weren't jagged.

The tulle will stretch and twist your headband. No worries! Nobody will see that it's all twisted up! And once you put it on her, you can tighten the headband under her hair by tying the excess satin into a knot.

The shirt is a simple $4 shirt I grabbed from Walmart. Nothing fancy. I braided three strands of green tulle and fabric glued them to the center of the shirt. The petals are just made from a few strands of lime green tulle folded in half and tied at the bottom with a clear elastic. I used fabric glue to attach it to the shirt also.

I paired a green pettiskirt and a pair of green leggings with the outfit to complete the look.

I crossed my fingers and sent a picture to our customer. Thankfully she loved it!!! I can't wait to see how it looks on her daughter!
